Perth Museum exhibition offers rare chance to meet mummy

Perth’s 3000-year-old mummy will be displayed as part of a new exhibition from this weekend.
The mummified body of the Egyptian princess or priestess will be a centrepiece of ”Belief: a world view from Perth” at Perth Museum and Art Gallery.
The mummy is thought to be of high status because of the vulture headdress on the lid of the sarcophagus.
Her name has never been established because of the condition of the hieroglyphic lettering on the lid of the sarcophagus.
Opportunities to see the artefact are becoming increasingly rare. It is not put on regular display because of its fragile condition and, while on show during the exhibition, it will be protected by a UV filter.
Museum staff are reviewing the longer term care needs for the mummy, which is seen as a much-loved star object in their collection.
The mummy will be on show to the public from Saturday.
