One of the founders of a Dundee and Angus animal charity has died following a long illness.
Isabel Arthur, of Carnoustie, helped to establish Help for Abandoned Animals in Dundee in the late 1970s.
In the 1990s she was instrumental in persuading the local authority to abolish the practice of electrocuting stray dogs at the city’s Brown Street kennels.
Strays were electrocuted if they remained unclaimed after seven days in the kennels.
In July 1991, the Angus branch of Help for Abandoned Animals was founded with the co-operation of Angus dog wardens.
The Dundee and Angus groups jointly opened a sanctuary in Arbroath in 1997, which is fully operational today thanks to volunteers.
Mrs Arthur is survived by her daughter, Lorraine, grandchildren Mark, Stephen and Siobhan and great-grandchild Rian Christopher.
She was predeceased by her husband Ronnie and grandchild Chris.
