PROPOSALS FOR a massive chicken farm in Perthshire have been given the green light.
Members of Perth and Kinross Council’s development management committee gave their unanimous consent for the erection of two poultry sheds, which will house 140,000 birds.
The site at Bankhead of Kinloch Farm, between Coupar Angus and Meigle, was chosen due to its proximity to two large chicken processing facilities.
The plans should provide significant economic benefits for the area, requiring additional employment during the four-month construction phase and when the facility is fully operational.
A report before councillors gave assurances that the poultry sheds would not create overwhelming bad odours, with the predicted worse case at the nearest dwelling likely to be below the Environment Agency benchmark.
