Increased under-employment in Scotland is to be probed at Holyrood.
The economy committee will launch an inquiry into the rise in people taking on part-time jobs or work that does not utilise all the skills they have.
The term “under-employment” is not well understood, according to the committee, and they are aiming to find out the impact on those under-employed and on Scotland’s economy.
Committee convener Murdo Fraser said the issue is part of a “complicated picture” within Scotland’s economy.
“Unemployment figures are routinely used as a temperature check on our labour market,” he said.
“Recent unemployment statistics show a drop in those that are unemployed, but evidence suggests that these figures mask a more complicated picture, with underemployment on an upwards trend.”
