Utility firm SSE yesterday said it was ploughing £160 million over four years into upgrading the electricity network in northern Scotland.
The investment by the firm’s Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) arm includes £7.2m to improve the resilience of infrastructure in Tayside.
The company said that following last winter’s exceptional weather events it had invested £30m in maintenance and refurbishment of the electricity network to ensure it was as robust as possible.
Engineers across Tayside have spent several months ramping up maintenance and refurbishment on key parts of the local electricity network.
The project has seen two of Coupar Angus’ main transformers replaced, regular electricity line inspections carried out and in Tummel Bridge, Pitlochry and Blair Atholl a significant amount of work has been undertaken to minimise the risk of outages from falling trees.
