NHS Fife board votes to save Glenrothes out-of-hours service
ByClaire Warrender
The closure-threatened out-of-hours GP service in Glenrothes has been spared the axe by the narrowest of margins,
NHS Fife board today rejected the view of clinicians that the service at Glenrothes Hospital should be closed and moved to Kirkcaldy, voting by 11 votes to 10 to retain it.
The surprise result has been welcomed by campaigners who had branded management’s controversial proposal weak and shallow.
Local MP Lindsay Roy and MSP Tricia Marwick, who led the campaign to save the service, have now urged NHS Fife to look carefully at how the review was conducted and learn lessons.
