The Duchess of Sussex’s “TV dad” says he is sure Meghan has been prepared “for the ugly side of human nature”.
Wendell Pierce, 55, played the on-screen father of Meghan’s character Rachel Zane in hit drama Suits.
And he told Good Morning Britain that in the “darkest hours, I hope she knows how much she is loved”.
“I hope she knows how many people, millions of people, care for her,” the US actor said.
“I’m sure that her mother raised her well, so prepared her for the ugly side of human nature like any women of colour would teach their child, just like my parents taught me.”
Pierce, who is on stage in the West End in Death Of A Salesman, added: “There are going to be people out there who do not have your best interest at heart but those are not the people you focus on. You focus away from them.”
Pierce, who played lawyer Robert Zane in the US legal drama, added: “I just remember the last moment I had with her… I even told her, ‘Your life is going to be very different, but in those tough times just remember you have a lot of people who care about you’.”
He told the ITV show that he is happy to offer his support, adding: “I’m her TV dad!”
His comments come after the fallout from Meghan and the Duke of Sussex’s emotional TV interview in which they described their struggles.
Meghan admitted feeling vulnerable and spoke of the difficulty in coping with intense tabloid interest, saying: “It’s not enough to just survive something, that’s not the point of life. You have got to thrive.”
