Cowdenbeath are putting the finishing touches to preparations for what they hope will be a shock victory over Premier League strugglers Hibs in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup at Central Park on Saturday.
The Fifers are brimming full of confidence with an eight-game unbeaten run behind them and a six-point lead at the top of the Second Division.
And for ex-Hibs youngster Thomas Flynn who has established himself as first choice goalkeeper with the in-form Fifers the occasion will give him the opportunity to prove a point to his former club.
The 21-year-old said: ”After four years with Hibs, I felt frozen out under their two previous managers so this will be an extra-special game for me. They have a new manager now but I want to play well against my old team-mates and hopefully turn them over.”
Flynn, who joined Cowden in the summer, had to wait his chance to get the No 1 jersey taking over from Youssef Bejaoui in September. He recorded a shutout that day at Dumbarton a feat he has now repeated on seven further occasions as Cowden have marched impressively on.
Flynn, and a solid back four, have been particularly hard to beat at Central Park with the last goal scored against them on their own ground being on October 22 when Forfar managed one in a 3-1 defeat.
East Fife’s cup trip to Falkirk has been given the go-ahead after storm damage to the stadium had put the tie in doubt.
A safety inspection was held at the ground on Friday to determine if the fourth-round tie could be staged.
The Falkirk FC website today confirmed the inspection had given the club the all-clear, and the match goes ahead.
All turnstiles and points of entrywill be operating as normal for the 3pm kick-off.
