Well-known Dundee solicitor Phil Scott has died, aged 60.
Mr Scott, who was a partner in the Blackadders firm, passed away suddenly at his home a week ago.
He was born in Huddersfield but moved to Perth with his family at the age of four.
The son of Dundee dentist Murray Scott, Phil attended Kinnoull Primary School and Perth Academy where, along with academic success, he was a prominent part of the school rugby and cricket teams. He went on to study law at Dundee University, graduating in 1973.
A junior footballer, Phil played for the now defunct Perth Celtic and Jeanfield Swifts in the 1970s.
Despite watching St Johnstone in his younger days, he became an avid Dundee United supporter.
Phil started his legal career with the firm of Gilruth Pollock & Smith in Whitehall Street, Dundee. After completing his training he qualified as a solicitor in 1975 and after a few years as an assistant was made a partner in the firm.
In 1987 his firm amalgamated with Carlton & Reid to become Carlton Gilruth (later Carltons) which in turn merged with Blackadder Reid Johnston to become what is now Blackadders.
Phil was a partner in Blackadders until he retired at the end of March 2011, latterly heading up the firm’s Arbroath office. He was known for his sense of fun and intelligent discussions.
In his early days he was involved in a range of work wills, estates, family law and some court work. He later concentrated on conveyancing and property work and became one of the area’s best known property solicitors. He was also secretary of the Tayside Solicitors Property Centre.
He was passionate about nature and enjoyed walking in the countryside with his partner Vera.
He is survived by his children, Sarah and Andrew, and grandson Lucas.
