There is no trace of negativity in the Dundee squad, despite their SPL predicament.
However, manager Barry Smith insisted that does not mean the players are not suffering.
Losing has become a habit of late for the Dark Blues, something they will be hoping to put right against Inverness Caley Thistle a week on Friday.
Smith’s faith that their fortunes will change has not diminished and that is when all the hard work and heartache will be worthwhile.
”We always knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Everything that’s happened hasn’t come as a shock,” he said.
”This is the reality of our situation. We know how difficult it will be but we’ve got tremendous belief in the dressing room that we can get through this and come out the other side a lot happier.
”Nobody’s happy with results but being negative in the dressing room won’t bring positive results. Working on things through the week, as we do every week, will help.
”It’s an old clich but the players are feeling as bad as the fans. As a professional player you want to win games. You can’t be happy with the way we’re playing because we’re getting beat.
”They’re giving everything but the games we’re losing aren’t because of shape or anything like that. It’s down to individual errors.”
Meanwhile, Smith reflected on the management change at an old club of his, Brechin City, where Jim Weir has been replaced by former Dundee United star Ray McKinnon.
He said: ”I know Jim and I was sorry he got sacked. But I’m delighted for Ray. He’s been looking to get into management at senior level and I’m sure he’ll give it everything. Brechin’s a good club and he’ll do well.”
