Brechin Civic Trust is to elect only its third chairman following the retiral of long-serving figurehead Stewart Hill.
At its recent annual general meeting, Mr Hill, who joined the trust in 1982, announced that he would not accept a nomination to serve another year as chairman.
“Having been chairman for 22 years, I feel that it is now time to stand down and allow a younger person, hopefully with some new ideas and enthusiasm, to take over,” he said.
The trust was established in 1972 following a public meeting organised by local GP, the late Dr Eric Jenner, who was elected as the body’s first chairman.
Its main purpose is to stimulate an interest in the history and built heritage of the town and to encourage the general development of Brechin.
Mr Hill, then vice-chairman, succeeded Dr Jenner in 1992 to become the trust’s second chairman.
Executive committee members reluctantly accepted his decision to step down and Mr Hill was praised for his many years of dedicated service.
The trust has arranged an EGM for 6.30pm on Tuesday February 3 in the Jenner room of the Mechanics Institute to which all members are invited, to elect a new chairman.
The EGM will be followed by an ordinary meeting of the executive committee.
