A volunteer driver battled wintry conditions to help midwives reach a woman in labour in highland Perthshire on Monday night.
Harry Glenvie, who spends his days working as a computer technician in Blairgowrie, volunteers with Tayside 4×4 Response.
On Monday night he was asked to drive two midwives to the remote village of Ballintuim where a woman having a home birth had gone into labour.
He said: “We are a charity organisation that responds to the emergency services if they need our assistance.
“Last night the weather was quite bad and I took two midwives from Blairgowrie to Ballintuim about 10pm.
“The main roads were not too bad but some of the roads on the estate were quite slippy so it was a bit of a challenge but we got there and the baby boy was delivered safely.”
Harry waited for the baby to be born before taking the midwives back to Blairgowrie.
He added that Tayside 4×4 Response has volunteers across Tayside when conditions become so bad that four-wheel drives are necessary.
“We are trying to get our numbers built up and trying to build a profile,” he said.
