Moving T in the Park to the Strathallan Estate could generate nearly £3million for the local economy, organisers have revealed.
Papers lodged by DF Concerts have outlined the financial and tourism benefits of staging the widely popular show in the grounds of the centuries-old Strathallan Castle, near Auchterarder.
The festival was forced to look for a new home after concerns were raised about an underground pipeline at its original base at Balado.
A planning permission has been submitted to Perth and Kinross Council and is now available for public scrutiny ahead of a final decision in April.
Amongst the documents is a breakdown of how the festival could boost the area.
It states: “Based on the economic impact assessment of the 2014 T in the Park, it is estimated that the benefit at the Perth and Kinross level will be at least £2.7million, resulting in 50 full-time-equivalent jobs.”
The assessment continues: “In an area where 8% of the population are income and/or employment deprived, and where local unemployment is 20% higher than pre-recession levels, this event will have a positive impact and will be a help in reducing these figures.
“The loss of such an event would be great than the near £3million loss in revenues, as it would hamper the destination credentials of the area and likely dissuade future event related investment.”
The owner of the Strathallan Estate has said that the capital from hosting the show would help pay for a series of much-needed improvements.
