Raith boss hopes Hearts star will make an impact

Hearts' Dale Carrick, on loan at Raith Rovers
Hearts' Dale Carrick, on loan at Raith Rovers

Raith Rovers manager Grant Murray believes the addition of Hearts forward Dale Carrick will give his side an extra edge for the next month at least.

The 21-year-old made the switch to Stark’s Park on a one month loan deal ahead of Raith’s away game at Hibernian on Saturday and the new face made an impact as a substitute, winning the set piece from which Rovers grabbed a late leveller against Hearts’ city rivals.

It extended Raith’s unbeaten run to five in the league, and Murray is convinced Carrick will continue to impress during his stay in Kirkcaldy.

“He brings in a freshness to the squad,” he explained.

“Dale has got a lot of first team experience at a high level with Hearts in the Premier League last season, and obviously with Calum missing Dale has come in and given us competition for places.

“He’s the type of striker who likes to play on the line and get in behind defences, so hopefully he’ll get himself goals.”

Rovers snatched a point from Easter Road thanks to Christian Nade’s late goal, and Murray reckons his side’s never-say-die attitude merited it.

“As long as the game was at 1-0, you never say never,” he stressed.

“We had to work hard and defend well, we had to defend well as a unit and that meant Davie McGurn making good saves, clearing things off the line and putting bodies in the way.

“You get out of football what you deserve and obviously I think we deserved a point.”

Rovers now face a difficult Scottish Cup tie against Rangers on Sunday afternoon, and they will definitely be without on loan winger Barrie McKay who cannot play against his parent club.
