Arbroath could lose a second star to the Premiership before the start of next season as Aberdeen are eyeing up a move for Gayfield midfielder Mark Whatley.
The Red Lichties have already sold Simon Murray to Dundee United, with the striker loaned back to the League Two leaders for the rest of the season.
Now the Dons are believed to be keen on taking 24-year-old Whatley in the summer.
Aberdeen under-20 manager Paul Sheerin signed the one-time Raith Rovers player from Lowland League Champions Spartans in the summer before he headed to Pittodrie.
The Dons have had him watched in recent games and had a spy at Easter Road on Saturday for Arbroath’s Scottish Cup tie with Hibs
Whatley ironically played for the same Tayport junior side as Murray, however he left for Spartans in 2012 before the Tannadice striker joined the Canniepairt side and the duo could now end up facing each other in the Premiership next season.
