Dundee will need to match the work ethic of Inverness Caley Thistle if they are to pip the league-leading Highlanders to the first division title.
That is the view of former ICT man Brian Kerr, who has watched his old club go 15 games unbeaten and move four points ahead of his current side as a result.
The Dens midfielder knows manager Terry Butcher from their time together at both Motherwell and Inverness so is aware of the battling qualities he puts into his players.
He believes Dundee must copy their example.
“It is fair to say we could do with a bit of the Inverness approach in the run-in,” said Kerr.
“They have come from behind but it has been more through hard work and perseverance than any great individual performances.
“I know Terry Butcher well and he is always guaranteed to get his team up for each occasion.
“It’s an all-for-one mentality. Even though it might not be pretty to watch it is effective.
“Instead of looking for certain players to do the business for us perhaps what we need is to add that to our game.
“We always knew that Inverness would be our biggest challengers even when they were written off earlier in the season.”
Dundee are still searching for their first win under new boss Gordon Chisholm but Kerr believes playing catch-up could ultimately work in their favour.
“It is maybe not a bad thing that we are chasing in second place,” he argued.
“There is a certain pressure when you are top of the league and it can be difficult to stay there.
“Now Caley Thistle are up there it is going to be a big test as they are there to be shot at.
“We still believe we can do it. Once we get our first win under the new gaffer we won’t look back.
“Hopefully, that will come against Ayr on Saturday.”
