After losing to Stirling Albion on Saturday, Arbroath have the chance to exact immediate revenge, and salvage their hopes of avoiding a relegation play-off, when they make a return trip to Forthbank.

Victory would drag Jim Weir’s men back within one point of Stenhousemuir and two points of East Fife and overtaking either in the run-in to the end of the season would secure the Angus side’s second division survival.

Weir said, “We still have a massive task ahead of us but there is belief amongst the squad that we can do it.

“I would rather have played the game on Tuesday or Wednesday evening but that’s out of our hands and our hosts will be just as tired as we are.

“Getting three points is hugely important as it will mean we can close the gap on Stenhousemuir and East Fife again and maintain our fight to get out of the play-off spot.”

Arbroath’s serious injury problems were exacerbated further on Saturday when Steven Rennie had to be replaced by Stevie Hislop after just half an hour and he will almost certainly be missing for the Albion fixture, along with Bryan Scott and Gerry McLauchlan.
