Stunning images of planets in our solar system were shown at Dundee’s Sensation science centre as part of Spring Astronomy Day.
The Magic Planet Exhibit, the largest of its kind in the UK, looks like a giant crystal ball and projects the outer-space images during a 20-minute show that takes visitors on a whirlwind tour of the planets.
Saturday’s Spring Astronomy Day was the forerunner to a summer of space-age fun at the centre, with the imminent arrival of One Small Step, which uses images, film and detailed models to explain the landmark stages of space exploration, from the earliest concepts of space travel, to the historic moon landing.
Another exhibition, Inside DNA, is also on at the centre and investigates developments in the fast-moving field of human genomics and the ethical issues they raise.
Linda Wallace, manager of science learning, said, “This is a really exciting day for us.
“The event is the first time we have offered reduced admission prices to enable visitors a final chance to explore an exhibition and to introduce a new summer theme.
“We are delighted to be able to offer the community this fantastic opportunity to celebrate the joys of astronomy, before launching our space exhibition and planetarium in June.”
