An impressive sculpture trail has been laid in Blair Castle’s gardens, incorporating existing contemporary and 18th century sculpture as well as eight new works from the Memorial Arts Charity’s art and memory collection.
Visitors are invited to come along on May 8 at 10am for the official opening, which will be carried out by the charity’s founder, Harriet Frazer.
Activities will include a demonstration of letter-cutting techniques, light refreshments in the walled Hercules Garden and music from the Tunnell Trust for Young Musicians.
The new works from the Memorial Arts Charity are all examples of the professional craft of letter carving in stone and include Gillian Forbes’ Three Hares, Andrew Baxter’s It is the Destruction of the World and Charlotte Howarth’s Remember Me.
They have been placed in the castle’s gardens and grounds at St Bride’s Kirk, on Hercules Walk and inside the nine-acre walled Hercules Garden.
The sculpture trail will form a 40-minute walk, beginning at Hercules Walk and winding its way on to St Bride’s Kirk and the peaceful woodland of Diana’s Grove.
The sculpture trail launch activities are included in the price of admission to the gardens, at £4.75 for adults and senior citizens and £2.25 for children, while a family ticket costs £11.
Blair Castle and gardens are open daily from 9.30am to 5.30pm. For further information, contact the castle on 01796 481207 or visit www.blair-castle.co.uk.
