The father of paedophile Connor Tait has been remanded in custody after being found guilty by a jury of assaulting three of his former partners, abducting two of them and holding them against their will.
Iain Daniel Tait, 43, of Byron Crescent, Dundee, held a knife to one of them and threatened to stab her and stuffed a towel in another victim’s mouth, restricting her breathing.
Following the verdict, the court was told Tait had previous convictions for domestic assault and domestic breaches of the peace and had previously served a six-month prison sentence after he breached a community service order.
He was found guilty of three counts of assaulting the women to their injury, at various locations in Dundee on various dates between April 30 2006 and December 23 2013.
He was also found guilty of breach of the peace and of threatening one of the women plus police officers with violence.
The jury found two other charges against Tait of assaulting two of the women not proven.
Solicitor Paul Parker Smith said accused was the father of Connor Tait and he and his wife had split up in the early 2000s.
Noting that Tait had spent six months in prison after breaching a previous community service order, Sheriff Way said he wanted reports as he was “concerned about other aspects of his domestic situation which may have put him under certain pressure.”
Mr Parker Smith asked: “His son?”
The sheriff replied: “Yes but that’s no one else’s business,” before remanding Tait pending reports until March 17.
