Danny can’t wait to rain on Rangers’ parade

Football, Dundee United v Rangers. United's Danny Cadamarteri and Bougherra go for the ball.

Dundee United’s Danny Cadamarteri says the club”s players are hoping to be party poopers tomorrow, when Rangers visit Tannadice.

The Glasgow giants clinched the SPL title last week at Hibs and, with the pressure off, will be looking to continue the celebrations this weekend.

However, after Rangers won last year’s championship on the final day of the season at Tannadice, the United players are determined they will not have to endure a similar celebration from the visiting support again.

“The boys are buzzing at the moment,” said Cadamarteri. “The club has achieved a lot so far this season but we want to stay sharp and in peak condition during the last three league games so we are in tip-top shape for the cup final.

“We play Rangers at the weekend and we will be looking to bounce back after the loss to Celtic last Sunday.

“It will be difficult playing the Old Firm back to back but we are determined that Rangers do not enjoy a party atmosphere at our ground again.”

Cadamarteri played under Rangers boss Walter Smith at Everton and he believes that, if his former gaffer finally decides to call it a day at the end of the season, he will be a huge loss to Scottish football.

“Walter Smith has shown over the years that he is a top, top manager who has enjoyed fantastic success in Scotland and become a Rangers legend,” he said.

“He is an excellent coach who has also done the business in England. He always creates tough teams to play against with some great players.

“It would be a big loss to football in general if he decided to retire at the end of this season.

“We want to pit our wits against the best footballers in the country and if he was not at Ibrox, you could not guarantee there would still be top players there.”
