Dundee Travel Active hosted a promotional day of activities and stalls in the city centre at the weekend, aimed at encouraging people to walk, cycle and use public transport.
A bicycle stunt show drew an early crowd outside the Caird Hall, with a variety of other attractions on offer such as a pedal powered scalextric set, stilt-walkers, face painting and a circular seven-seater bicycle.
Wave 102 provided music and a broadcast, with Dundee-born soap star Samuel Robertson on hand to lend his support to the scheme.
The River City and Coronation Street actor said, “Today’s event has been great for the kids to come along and learn about being active.
“When I was that age I used to go out and play football every day at Magdalen Green for 10 or 12 hours at a time and I used to cycle down into the city centre I think it is the best way to travel.”
Information stalls were set up in front of the square including bus company Stagecoach, NHS Tayside and the Dundee Disabled Ramblers, alongside a number of sections run by the Travel Active team.
Regional transport partnership Tactran also support the Travel Active scheme, which has been responsible for the upgrading of Dundee’s cycle pathway network. We’ll be adding a photo gallery showing the stunt team in action. Check back later for more.
