Pain of late collapse will spur Dundee on: Hart

Dundee”s Richie Hart has promised the club”s players will heed the lessons from their first-division title campaign collapse in a bid to ensure it never happens again.

Hart and the rest of the Dark Blues suffered in defeat up in Inverness on Saturday, as Terry Butcher’s men ended their championship winning season with a 1-0 victory thanks to an Adam Rooney first-half goal.

The Highland side gained promotion to the SPL after going on a late-season charge, while Dundee frittered away a sizeable lead.

Hart insists disappointment will spur the players on when the 2010/2011 campaign begins.

“Obviously, it was a poor end to the season in Inverness,” he said. “We were hoping to pick up a win to at least finish on a high.

“We were the better team in the first half. We created some good chances and had a stonewall penalty turned down, then we let them back into it.

“At the start (of the season) there was a lot of hype because we had bought a couple of players and we were made red-hot favourites to be promoted.

“We went on a good run in December which got us into a great position, although we sometimes picked up results when we did not deserve to win. Since then, the performances have been indifferent.

“Hopefully, we may have a couple of new players coming in to make a difference, but all the lads already at Dens who have suffered the crushing disappointment of missing out on promotion are determined to learn from the experience to make sure it does not happen again.”
