Vauxhall are knocking £500 off the start price of the new Astra Sports Tourer.
It will cost from £16,575 when it goes on sale later this year undercutting the model it replaces, while providing higher equipment levels and more boot space.
Built in Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant, the estate will come in four trim levels ES, Exclusiv, SE and SRi and with a range of petrol and diesel engines.
All versions get air conditioning, electronic stability programme, curtain airbags and an electronic parking brake.
The entry model is powered by a 99bhp 1.4 litre petrol, which is 10bhp more grunt than the car it replaces. Diesel prices start at £18,665 for the 1.7 CDTi ES. Again, that is less than the outgoing 1.3CDTi, yet the car has more power and emits less than 120g/km of CO2.
The estate costs a premium of £995 or more (depending on the model) over the hatchback.
With the rear seats up there is 500 litre of space, 30 more than the current Astra estate.
