A Blairgowrie writer has collaborated with the Scottish Dance Theatre to design a poster for the company”s show at this month”s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Roderick Manson, a member of the Dundee creative writing group Nethergate Writers, was presented with a framed copy of the work during an event at the Rep Theatre’s cafe bar.
The group, who are part of Dundee University’s department of continuing education, performed excerpts from their latest anthology, entitled Whodunwhat.
After going to see a recent Scottish Dance Theatre production, Roderick wrote a poem and showed it to the dance troupe’s technical manager Emma Jones, who is also a Nethergate Writer.
Her colleagues were so impressed they asked his permission to reproduce the text on posters and programmes for the company’s performance at the Festival Fringe on August 7″“22.
The writers were asked to run an event at Dundee Rep following Roderick’s collaboration with the SDT, which has its studios in the theatre.
In order to find inspiration for their anthology, the group ran a competition asking readers to suggest ideas for characters and situations, and the writers chose the best of these to base short stories and poems around everything from humour and crime to “slice of life” encounters.
Whodunwhat is the Nethergate Writers’ fourth publication and, like the others, it topped the local Waterstones chart just days after its publication in June.
