Dunfermline manager Jim McIntyre has said he isn’t getting carried away by his side’s impressive league start but took time to praise them after a hard-earned three points on Saturday.
The Pars have taken full points from their first two league games and overcame a stuffy Morton team at East End Park before clinical finishing by striker Andy Kirk led to a 2-0 home victory.
McIntyre expressed his satisfaction at the result but acknowledges that there is a long season ahead.
“I was absolutely delighted to get the three points against Morton as we didn’t play well,” he said.
“It’s a good start but we’re not getting carried away.”
He continued, “I thought Morton passed the ball around better than us. Although they didn’t cut us open much, maybe their final ball and our defence being quite solid helped things.
“We went in at 0-0 and were the slightly better side in the second-half but not by much.
“However, we were here ourselves last season when we were the better side but never took anything in some games so it’s nice to grind out a win when we don’t play well.”
McIntyre felt the main difference between the sides was the “final ball” and good finishing by two-goal hero Kirk. And he praised defender Neil McGregor who came on as a second-half sub for Joe Cardle.
“You want to win your home games and we brought on Neil and I think he gave us a lift,” he added.
“He gave us more solidity in the midfield to help Gary Mason. We had spoken about who to put on the bench before the game and had considered young Ryan Thomson but Neil was solid.”
