More than £6000 has been raised by members of a Dundee Muslim youth group to assist the victims of the Pakistan flood crisis.
Volunteers from the Yusuf Youth Initiative (YYI) celebrated the start of Ramadan last week by launching a food programme for those in need across the world. Young people from the group led the campaign and more than £6000 was raised enough to help feed more than 600 people for a month.
Volunteer Altaf Hussain says it is important to support less fortunate people around the world.
He said, “The Pakistan flood crisis is now considered one of the worst disasters in recent times. Over 20 million people have been affected, with millions of children at high risk of disease.
“Ramadan brings about a spirit of compassion and mercy, and fasting reminds us of those less fortunate across the world.”
He added, “This campaign is an important one and will complement the relief effort.”
The YYI was set up in 2004 and is designed to empower young people from minority communities to play a more proactive role in society.
