A wooden tea hut with a corrugated iron roof where over the years refreshments have been served to many of the world’s leading professional and amateur golfers, and a fair number of celebrity players, has been sold on internet auction site eBay for £1500.
The tiny hut, which stands behind the 10th hole on the Championship Course at Carnoustie around which some of the world’s top pro-celeb stars were playing in the first round of the Dunhill Championship on Thursday has been declared surplus to requirements, with work having started on a new state-of-the-art pro centre.
With no reserve set by the sellers, there were 33 bids for the hut one of a startling £5500 being withdrawn by the bidder.
The hut measures just 16ft (4.8 metres) by 8ft (2.4 metres) and the interior is festooned with hundreds of bag tags left by golfers and celebrities who have stopped off there for a warming cup of tea or a hot savoury snack over the years.
The unidentified buyer has until October 22 to arrange for the hut to be dismantled and removed from its present site.
