Police will be cracking down on anti-social behaviour, vandalism, and alcohol-related disorder in the run up to bonfire night.
Officers are working to combat behaviour which has challenged all emergency services.
Operation Treacle will address the increased potential for youth alcohol-related crime and disorder, anti-social behaviour and disruption to communities throughout the school holidays, Hallowe’en and bonfire night.
Assistant Chief Constable Angela Wilson said, “At this time of year, with the darker nights setting in, some people think there is a window of opportunity to behave irresponsibly and in an anti-social way, particularly on Hallowe’en and bonfire night.
“The message from Tayside Police is clear anti-social behaviour can ruin lives and it will not be tolerated at any time of the year.
“Local people tell us that anti-social behaviour is their main concern and we are committed as part of our force objectives and policing pledge to tackling the issues that matter most to the people of Tayside.”
She added, “So, as disorderly behaviour traditionally rises at this time of year, we have launched this proactive operation to stop trouble before it starts. We are working closely with local retailers and licensees who are actively helping us ensure fireworks and alcohol do not get into the hands of under 18s.
“Youths suspected of being in possession of alcohol or fireworks can expect to be searched, the alcohol and fireworks seized, and then taken back home to inform their carers.”
Police are running high visibility operations targeting hot spots to try to prevent incidents before they start.
Anyone who has any concerns about anti-social behaviour should call 0300 111 2222.
