Trading Standards watchdogs hope to cut the number of cold-callers in Angus after they entered into an agreement with energy providers.
Angus Council’s trading standards service has moved to alert local people that energy companies will not now approach householders in areas where Doorstopper No Cold Calling stickers are displayed.
The move comes after a new code of practice was adopted by Energy Sure on behalf of the Association of Energy Suppliers.
The agreement recognises all No Cold Calling Areas and Doorstopper stickers.
The code specifically states that no energy salesperson will enter a recognised No Cold Calling Area or approach any house with a sticker.
“If this should happen, that salesperson will have not only breached their code of practice but may have committed a breach under trading standards legislation,” said a spokesman.
“Local people who are approached by energy suppliers who are breaching the code are asked to note the full name of the salesperson and his or her identification number.
“This information, along with the time, date and street name, should then be passed to Angus trading standards via the ACCESSLine on 08452 777 778.”
Doorstopper stickers are available from all Access offices, via ACCESSLine and Angus libraries. Alternatively, call 01241 435600 for a Doorstoppers pack.
