Dundee United ready for Celtic Peter Houston

Dundee United Peter Houston is backing his team to be the first to conquer Celtic in a domestic match this season.

Neil Lennon’s men have not lost an SPL or Co-operative Insurance Cup game since the campaign began and will arrive at Tannadice for their Sunday lunchtime clash in confident mood.

However, Houston, who was back working with the Tangerines on Wednesday following international duty with Scotland, believes United are well capable of hurting the Hoops.

“Celtic are on a magnificent run,” acknowledged the United gaffer. “They have won 15 matches in a row in the SPL going back into last season and that is an amazing achievement.

“Neil has made changes and it will be a different Celtic team to the ones we have played in the past. They are more solid and have more of a physical aspect to them from last season. But the way I look at it, at Tannadice we can beat anyone on our day.

“Celtic will come and attack us, that’s for sure, but we have the ability to have a go at them.

“On our day and with the crowd behind us I think we have a really good chance. Our form has improved lately and that is without having our strongest team on the park.

“When we get everyone back fit again then it should get even better. I can’t praise our players highly enough so far.”

United could have Craig Conway back for the Celtic match, with the winger having trained for a couple of days and shaken off a knee injury.

“Craig is back in training and has been doing really well so that would be a great bonus for us if he is fit again,” said Houston.

“Garry Kenneth is also over his injury so he will be fine, as will Darren Dods, but Danny Swanson is still injured.”
