Baxter Park in Dundee is the only Scottish location shortlisted in the inaugural UK Landscape Awards.
It is one of six areas on the shortlist, which also includes the Durham Heritage Coast, the Mersey Basin Campaign, the Gold Route in Sheffield, the Heather and Hillforts Project in Wales and the Lough Neagh Regeneration Project.
The winner will be announced at an event in Liverpool next month and will go on to represent the UK in the European final.
The overall winner will be chosen by the Council of Europe’s European Landscape Award in March.
Dundee City Council leisure and communities convener Bob Duncan welcomed the inclusion of Baxter Park in the UK shortlist.
“The Scottish award is confirmation of the quality of the park’s original design and its restoration.”
The award, which was created by the European Landscape Convention, aims to celebrate local landscapes projects and demonstrate how they benefit the community. It is supported in Scotland by Scottish Natural Heritage and Historic Scotland.
SNH landscape adviser Caroline Read said, “We are really pleased to see the Baxter Park project get the recognition it deserves.
“The project has demonstrated real commitment to sustainable landscapes in the local community. It has transformed a local facility in a way that will benefit the people of Dundee for many years.”
