Fife Council chiefs have reassured the public that all options for the future of older people’s care services will be explored before any decisions are made.
As we reported, the social work and health committee will be asked to give the go-ahead for what could be one of the biggest consultations to date on Tuesday, as it reviews options for residential, day care and respite provision.
Rona Laing, head of the council’s older people services, reassured the public, service users and their families that no decisions are being made yet.
She said, “We fully understand that the prospect of change can be daunting and that the welfare of people who use our services is paramount.
“We have already contacted people who live in our homes and use our services, their families and staff to inform them of these initial discussions and they have our commitment that no decision will be made until a full and robust consultation programme has taken place, the results of which will be presented to members of Fife Council in February 2011.
“We will be contacting them again following the social work and health committee on October 19.”
She added, “In the meantime, the care and wellbeing of our service users continues to be our priority.”
