The Bruce Dinner, organised every year by Dunfermline Heritage Trust, was held at the home of the trust’s patron, the Earl of Elgin and Kincardine.

The keynote speech was delivered by Dr Bruce Durie, director of genealogical studies at Strathclyde University’s Centre for Lifelong Learning.

Marking key events in Robert the Bruce’s life, the dinner took the Siege of Perth as its theme.

An auction raised £5500, the star lots including a Bruce dirk, with a handle fashioned from the 700-year-old Bruce Oak, which went to Brian Souter of Stagecoach, and a gold reef-knot Bruce pendant, commissioned from Sheila Fleet of Orkney which went to Mike Pettigrew, managing director of warships at Babcock Marine.

Trust chairman Craig Lindsay acknowledged the sponsorship of the Purvis Group for the trust’s mission of promoting Dunfermline’s history to the widest possible audience.

“We are indebted to Bob and Ella Purvis for helping us put together the event,” said Mr Lindsay.
