The search has begun to find Dundee’s next citizen of the year.
A panel of judges, led by lord provost John Letford and comprising representatives from a range of organisations including the city council, the universities, the trade unions and the churches, will consider the nominations before choosing the winner early next year.
Mr Letford said there must be many citizens worthy of receiving the accolade and he wanted people to submit names.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the city chambers or from council offices across Dundee as well as downloaded from the council’s website.
Proposers will be asked to provide details of the nominee’s public service, employment or former job as well as other interests.
In the main, nominations should relate to those who have given outstanding service to the community, normally on a voluntary basis.
The judges will be looking, in particular, for selfless service to a voluntary body or the community or which brings distinction and quality to everyday life in Dundee.
In assessing outstanding service, the judges may take into account the circumstances of an individual’s achievement, for instance whether it was in the face of great odds, such as personal disability or severe private or domestic difficulties.
There is no age barrier but nominees must live within the Dundee City Council area.
Nominations must bear the name of a proposer and a seconder. In the case of one family member nominating another, the seconder must be from outwith the family.
The closing date for nominations is December 31.
