Fresh from its triumph at the Fife Business Diversity Awards, St Andrews cafe Zest is preparing for the Scottish finals.
Zest was overall winner at the awards, held in Glenrothes. The event recognised good practice in employing people from all walks of life.
Host for the night was Kingdom FM’s Kevin Brady and Dunfermline Athletic’s director of football Jim Leishman was guest speaker.
Since setting up shop in St Andrews two years ago, Lisa Cathro, who co-owns Zest with Lisa Cifti, has seen the South Street business grow. She employs about 15 staff and recently opened up a take-away salad bar in Market Street.
“I hire people on personality people who are friendly, outgoing, willing to speak to anybody and have the right attitude.
“When training them we work with what they can do, not what they can’t. I’ve been lucky, I’ve got a really good team of staff,” she said.
All the category winners, including Andrew Cook, Sense Scotland and Shaw Trust Book Recycling Project, will go forward to the Scottish Business Diversity Awards next month.
