A former Fife minister is to preside over next year’s General Assembly of the Church of Scotland after being named moderator-designate.
Rev David Arnott, who was formerly minister at Hope Park Church in St Andrews, is also a former chaplain at Barlinnie Prison in Glasgow.
Born in Dunfermline, he attended Burntisland and Lochgelly West primary schools and studied at St Andrews University. After graduating he served at several churches in Glasgow before being inducted to Hope Park in 1996.
During his time in St Andrews he served as an honorary Church of Scotland minister at the university and was convener of the ministry committee and superintendence committee.
He was moderator of the presbytery in 2007. Throughout his career Mr Arnott has served on various Church of Scotland boards and committees at presbytery and national level.
He has been convener of education for the board of ministry, and was invited to join a small working party which remodelled the selection process for applicants to ministry.
While on the then board of practice and procedure he was invited to convene a commission for the General Assembly examining the future of the Presbyteries of Europe and Jerusalem.
