Creative Dundonians keen to light up the city were at Baxter Park to make lanterns for the Christmas Light Night torchlit procession.
Local artists Kirsty Doig and Dougie Paterson led the workshop for people of all ages making the willow-framed lanterns.
Dougie said on Saturday, “We are making the lanterns for the torchlight procession on November 19. We did this last year and the procession started off proceedings for the Christmas Light Night.
“We have already been working with uniform groups like the Guides and the Scouts working on sphere-shaped lanterns, but we are hoping to be adventurous today.”
The Baxter Park participants fashioned big stars and dolphins out of willow frames covered in tissue paper and decorated with dried leaves and grasses.
Kirsty and Dougie hope to work with around 300 members of the public on the run-up to Christmas Light Night, when the torchlight procession will gather at The McManus at 6.15pm and then make its way down to the City Square for the official switch-on of the Christmas lights.
The Christmas Light Night is a free event aimed at illuminating the city’s contemporary culture and its innovative past. The celebration will also include contemporary music, choirs, dance, fireworks, late night shopping, light projections and street theatre.
