Montrose and Arbroath are set to lock horns at Links Park this Sunday, with the home side hopeful the game will survive the low temperatures.
Being a derby match held on a holiday weekend, the fixture has the potential to bring in a decent crowd and both sets of players will be keen to get a run out.
Arbroath manager Paul Sheerin said his side have been training at Soccerworld in Dundee and McDiarmid Park in Perth ahead of the tie.
He added, “I have been speaking to the chairman and he seems confident that the game will go ahead and I know that it will be one Montrose will want to make sure is on.
“It’s always a big game between the two and having experienced the fixture already this season the lads know what it’s all about and what is expected of them by the club and the supporters.
“We have prepared as well as we can do and will be in the right mentality to come out of the blocks come Sunday.”
The last time Arbroath were involved in a competitive game was when they played out a stalemate with Stranraer on December 15.
Sheerin’s squad is now injury-free and at full strength ahead of the derby this weekend.
Montrose manager Steven Tweed is looking forward to the start of a big week for the club.
Sunday’s derby will be followed by a Links Park Scottish Cup match against Dunfermline on Saturday.
“It’s a big week for the club with two big games back to back,” he said.
“We haven’t played a league game since Elgin a few weeks ago but we’ve had a couple of practice games.
“I think there’s always some rustiness over the festive period when you’re dealing with part-time players but it’s a big Angus derby and we’re confident of getting three points.”
Tweed will be without the injured John Crawford and Paul Watson, who has returned to Forfar after a loan spell.
However, the manager will be looking at strengthening his squad during the transfer window.
