A historic church hall in Broughty Ferry has moved a step closer to being sold off.
Forfar developer Taylor Shepherd Homes has lodged a planning application to transform St Aidan’s Church hall, in St Vincent Street, into a funeral directors as well as build two homes and four flats.
The firm is also seeking permission to tear down an extension constructed during the war.
If given the go-ahead the designs will almost certainly mean the C-listed structure will be bought by the developers.
In September the trustees of the Broughty Ferry New Kirk agreed the church hall, which dates back to the 1870s and originally used as a boarding school, would be sold to help fund the upgrade and redevelopment of St Aidan’s for community and church use.
The Rev Catherine Collins of St Aidan’s told The Courier that the sale had not yet been finalised but would go through depending on planning approval.
“We know exactly what is being proposed,” she said. “The demolition is not for the hall itself but for its wartime extension.
“It will then be up to planners to decide what alterations are allowed for the C-listed building.”
Dundee City Council is due to determine the application on February 27.
