Brechin make the trip to face Queen of the South in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Tuesday night, hoping to carry on the form that saw them put five past Annan Athletic in the last round.
A frozen pitch at Palmerston Park on Saturday saw the tie moved to Tuesday, with Jim Weir’s men having only laced their boots in anger twice since the end of November due to the severe weather.
Brechin chairman Ken Ferguson said, “We are very hopeful that the game will be going ahead.
“There has been a considerable thaw there and more rain and I believe there is only one area of the pitch that is affected.”
Long-term absentees Charlie King and Gerry McLauchlan remain absent.
Despite City’s lack of action, their first division hosts would do well to be aware that the Angus side are enjoying a season that has seen them become promotion contenders.
Indeed Brechin have scored 12 times in their last three competitive games and have not been beaten in their last 10.
It was SPL Motherwell that inflicted the Glebe Park side’s last defeat back in September, when they edged out their hosts 2-0.
Queen of the South manager Kenny Brannigan missed out on signing Ryan Conroy on loan for a second spell in time to be included for the encounter with Brechin, with the midfielder rumoured to be heading to Ross County.
Brannigan therefore lists all 14 outfield playing members of his squad with the Palmerston boss out to ensure that there is no slipping in standards as a result of their lengthy lay-off that now stretches back over eight weeks.
He said, “It has hardly been an ideal time and hopefully we can get going against Brechin.
“We need to be ready from the kick-off as they have players that can score goals and we have to be prepared to work as hard as we were before the snow arrived.”
