A Dundee man who admitted biting a lump out of the lip of another reveller at a city pub had sentence deferred at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Steven Harper (25), of South Road, admitted that on October 9 at Tally’s, Old Hawkhill, he assaulted Damon Watson to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
The court heard that around 11pm Harper was drinking with friends while Watson was at an adjacent table with his girlfriend and her friends.
When the women went to the toilet, Harper had approached their table and made to take a drink from a pitcher they had left behind.
Watson told him to leave it and he did but a fight later broke out between them.
Depute fiscal Isma Mukhtar said, “At some point during the fighting the accused and the complainer seemed to be struggling against one another when the complainer felt the accused bite his lower lip.”
A chunk almost a centimetre cubed was later found on the floor of the bar. While it was put on ice and rushed to Ninewells, it could not be grafted back onto Watson’s face.
When police were called about the incident, Harper told them, “I’m not a violent person, I don’t start fights.”
Surgeons were able to patch up Watson’s injury but the court heard his lip was still very sensitive and people commented on the scar it had left.
Sheriff Alistair Duff deferred the case for reports.
