Dr William J. A. Gibson, former consultant radiologist at the hospitals in Angus, has died at the age of 74.
Dr Gibson was originally from Whithorn in Wigtownshire and he graduated from Glasgow University.
It was in Glasgow where he met his wife Daphne, a nurse at Victoria Infirmary, and the couple were married in 1962.
Dr Gibson went on to train as a radiologist at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and they moved to Dundee in 1965 for him to take up a post at the Royal Infirmary.
Four years later he moved to the Angus hospitals where he spent the rest of his career.
He reached prominence in the profession and was elected president of the Scottish Radiological Society, holding the position for two years.
His main pastime was bowls and he was secretary and then president of Broughty Bowling Club and later its honorary vice-president.
The Gibsons lived in Broughty Ferry for many years until Dr Gibson retired and they moved to Longforgan.
They enjoyed going on cruise holidays.
The couple have two married sons, Graham and Stuart. Graham is a project manager in information technology and Stuart teaches English in Japan.
He lives in Kyoto which suffered shock waves in the recent earthquake off the coast of that country.
He has been able to travel home for his father’s funeral.
