Race to Bell Rock added to Year of the Light line-up

A special yacht race from Arbroath harbour to the Bell Rock Lighthouse has been arranged as part of the Year of the Light celebrations.

A year of festivities has been organised to mark the bicentenary of the famous structure.

The Bell Rock 200 race will take place on June 18 with an 8.30am start with the fastest vessels expected to return around noon.

There will also be a more relaxed afternoon cruise to the Bell Rock for those who prefer a slower pace.

Clive Wedge, of organisers Arbroath Sailing and Boating Club, said that sailing off the east coast of Angus had been incredibly treacherous before the Bell Rock was built.

He added, “The Year of the Light Regatta will provide sailors from near and far with the opportunity to highlight the difference the Bell Rock lighthouse has made to sailing on the east coast of Scotland and to join in with the bicentenary celebrations of this iconic lighthouse.”For more information visit www.arbroathsailingandboatingclub.org.uk
