Cowdenbeath boss Jimmy Nicholl has paid tribute to his players after they passed a big test of character to win Tuesday’s match against Ross County.
The Blue Brazil moved to within a point of third-bottom County with their hard-fought 2-1 Central Park win.
Now Nicholl believes that even if the worst-case scenario happens and Cowdenbeath end up in a relegation play-off, they will approach it full of confidence.
He said, “Tuesday’s game was a magnificent team effort with the subs also playing their part.
“I had told the players that this was a must-win game, and they mentally handled the pressure and we now have a chance of staying up.”
He added, “Prior to Tuesday’s win, we had good draws at Falkirk and Dunfermline during which there were a lot more plusses than minuses.
“That was the really pleasing thing.”
Nicholl said, “If the worst comes to the worst and we end up in the play-off, then at least we will go there confident.
“I would be really worried if we had been getting gubbed.
“However, before we start thinking about the worst-case scenario, we have a really difficult game at Raith Rovers on Saturday.
“They are going for the title but we showed that when we lost 2-1 there last month how much we had improved since they beat us 3-0 at home in February.
“Hopefully, if everyone is fit and well after the County game, we will do even better.”
