For the past year a charity bottle has been placed on the bar and drinkers have been putting in everything from £10 notes to 1p pieces. The bottle filled up quickly and bar manager Paul Cook raised another £50 by asking customers to guess how much was inside. Regular Bill Wallace always puts in cash when he visits and was asked to pick a charity the cash should go to and decided on the RNLI in Arbroath. Mr Wallace was also given the honour of taking a hammer to the bottle and smashing it open. Although the money has not been counted yet, it should run well past three figures topped up by the cash raised for guessing how much is inside. Allan Russell from the RNLI praised everyone involved, adding, “The Arbroath lifeboat crew would like to thank everyone who donated money.” Councillor David Fairweather said the RNLI in Arbroath was “a fantastic cause”.
