If blood and guts are your thing then a new film festival at Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) may be just what you’re looking for.
The city’s own horror film festival makes its debut this month, showing a terrifying selection of international cinema including such classics as Dawn of the Dead and An American Werewolf in London.
Organisers have already expressed hopes that the Dundead Festival will become an annual event, and there has been an encouraging number of bookings.
A total of nine films will be screened at the Nethergate venue and all will take place in the evening.
The idea came about thanks to a loyal band of DCA customers, who also came up with the name, in various discussions on Facebook and Twitter.
A spokeswoman for the DCA explains, “There has not been anything like this in Dundee before and there is definitely an appetite for it.
“The response has been very positive and people are spreading the word.”
DCA head of cinema Alice Black said, “We did it for three reasons because the people of Dundee demanded it, because it’s been a really strong year for new horror and classic re-releases, and because we think horror films are as much contemporary art as anything else in our programme.”
The Dundead Festival runs from Thursday, April 28, until Sunday, May 1. The other films include The Beyond, Don’t Look Now, Red Hill, Insidious, Outcast, Hobo With A Shotgun and Suspiria.
