Almost 3000 women and girls ran through the Camperdown Park heat on Sunday in the Race For Life to raise money for cancer research.
This year was a double-header, with over 700 in the 10k and 2100 in the 5k.
Women and children of all shapes, sizes and ages were running-some because family members or friends have been diagnosed with cancer, others just for the fun of it but to raise money for a good cause.
Race For Life area events manager Carolyn Johnston said, “It was fantastic, a huge success, whether it was because of father’s day or the weather, there just seemed to be loads of people there encouraging the runners.
“Last year we raised over £215,000 and this year, although we had a slight drop in numbers, we are hoping to at least match it if not beat that figure.”
She added, “We’re already starting to enrol people for next year and girls are being encouraged to enter for the early bird tickets at only £10 before the end of September, which is a third off the normal price.”Click here to view a full gallery of photos and to submit your ownDundee woman Lesley Simpson (46) and her colleagues from Douglas Family Centre were inspired to take on the 10k after Lesley’s friend Jenny Costello, also 46, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005.
Lesley said, “Jenny has had a really hard time and has suffered a lot of setbacks but is in remission now.
“She has been great through it all and we decided to do the run to raise money for research because of her.”
