A six-year-old Dundee boy remained in a critical condition at Ninewells Hospital two days after being pulled unconscious from an Arbroath leisure pool.
The distraught family of the boy, believed to be from Kirkton but who has not been formally named, continued their bedside vigil on Monday night.
Despite efforts of medical staff the youngster’s grandfather said his condition was still the same.
The harrowing incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon during a family holiday at the Red Lion Caravan Park in Arbroath when his mother spotted the boy lying at the bottom of the pool.
He was, according to onlookers, lifted from the water before a swimmer performed CPR on him. Paramedics arrived shortly afterwards and worked on the boy for around 40 minutes.
He was then taken to Ninewells Hospital under police escort.
It is understood he was breathing and his heart was still working at the time of his arrival.
Angus Council’s vice-convener of infrastructure services David Fairweather has promised a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He also said officers had been at the caravan park carrying out interviews.
“A team of very professional officers are trying to find out how this happened and make sure it doesn’t happen again,” he added.
“The officers have been on site interviewing people and we will get the full facts. My thoughts go out to the young lad.”
