Around 40 school leavers are being given an insight into army life at Barry Buddon training camp this week.
The week-long Look at Life course is being run by a team from the Armed Forces Careers Office in Dundee to help youths planning a career in the military learn about what army life entails.
This will include many aspects of a soldier’s daily life, including demanding daily physical activities, such as a 1.5-mile run, the army obstacle course, survival skills, orienteering and map reading.
They will also be taught military skills required in preparation for when they go to the Army Foundation College in Harrogate.
Shaun Henderson from Forfar said, “My aim is to join the Royal Regiment of Scotland and I want to get myself as prepared as possible for the next step. I am sure I will make some good friends during the week.”
Major Mark Griffin, the officer in charge of recruiting in the Dundee area, said, “It is fantastic to see a group of motivated young people ready to take on new challenges at the start of their journey to joining the army.
“Aside from the serious business of preparing them for what lies ahead, I am sure they will have fun as well.
“Through the running of our Look at Life courses, it is important to let people know that despite recent news of redundancies, the army continues to recruit high-quality young people with the drive to succeed.”
